Breakfast for Dad
My mother and father have been married for 66 yrs. My mother is now in a nursing home with late stage Alzheimer's disease. My devoted heartbroken 87 year old father visits her everyday day and sometimes twice a day. He is also a creature of habit and goes out to breakfast four times a week at four different restaurants. He orders the same thing at each restaurant and the waitresses know him by name and order. Last week at his usual Tuesday breakfast place, he was waiting for his bill after finishing his usual breakfast and since it hadn't arrived at his table he went to the cashier station to inquire about the check. Two waitresses behind the counter explained that an anonymous person offered to pay for someone's bill and they chose him. They rang up his bill on a restaurant gift card and then handed the card to my father. He asked why they were giving the card to him and they told him he had $91.00 more to spend on that card. My father was in tears as was I when he told me this story. He said that every time he gets really down someone's kindness touches him so much and makes his day so much better.
