A Teacher Who Believed in Me
I'm currently in 8th grade. I had been in Remote Learning for 6th and 7th grade (because of COVID) and barely came back to in-person learning this year. When I first started, I realized how much things had changed. I had to relearn how to socialize and make new friends. All my old friends were gone. I was in a really bad place at the beginning - I was too scared to talk to anyone and to even raise my hand to share or answer a question. I only spoke when directly asked or told something. It was so hard because that wasn't who I was!
However, there was one teacher who managed to see through it. I was in her elective class and she, whenever she could, directly pointed the conversation to me so my classmates could hear what I had to say. I became a little more open every time. It's still difficult now but I'm working on being braver. Then she did what I would've never expected: she nominated me for Student of the Year! That was a time when I was at a low moment and she showed me how much she believed in me. I'm fighting a little harder each day for myself because of her. It's been hard at home and school but I'm still going. Because of her, because she believes in me.
