Tell Us Your Kindness Story
Elderly man

I was in the grocery story and needed to get some shredded cheese. An elderly man stood there in front of the cheese section studying every selection. He finally moved a bit and I was able to get to what I needed. He struck up a conversation with me, telling me how much prices have gone up and that he has to wait until his check comes in to get the things he needs but before he knows it the money is all used up. He said he can only buy the minimum and doesn't always get what he would like. He said he hasn't been able to have steak in years. He said the packets of cheese is more than he needs because it is just him, so I told him to put the remaining cheese in the freezer. I wished him a happy Valentine's day and it brought a smile to his face. I walked a few steps away and thought about how blessed I am to be able to buy whatever I wanted at the grocery store and almost felt embarrassed by that. At the point I knew I needed to help him in some way so I reached into my wallet and got out $20. I walked back to him and pressed the money into his hand. I said, I am extremely blessed and please take this and buy yourself a steak. He did not want to accept the gift but I refused to take it back when tried to give it back to me. I told him it would bring me joy if he would accept the money. He said, that isn't why I told you that. I said, I know but please accept it and I walked away. After that I had to stop at the customer service desk and while I was waiting my turn I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned around and a woman was standing there. She said, you blessed me by what you did. I said, I don't understand. The lady said I saw what you did and it blessed me to see your kindness. I said to her that I didn't want anyone to see what I did and she said, I know. She said "keep following your heart". Her words meant everything to me. This makes me want to help more people in need and I pray that I am put in their path.
