Between Worlds and Words
I grew up moving from country to country with my family. Every time we started a new life in a new place, I always felt a bit lost, surrounded by unfamiliar words and faces.
I was seven years old on my first day at school in a foreign country, standing alone in the playground not able to understand what anybody was saying. This was when I noticed a girl looking at me. Then she smiled! This seemingly small act of kindness gave me the courage to wave at her, and she waved back. We eventually became friends, and this opened the doors for me being able to find belonging.
Sharing this story is a celebration of random acts of kindness that help us embrace our differences and connect without a common language. I'm grateful for wordless connections like these that build bridges over language barriers and borders!
