2¢ for a shirt
When I was in college I was working as a draftsman downtown Abilene Texas.
I went across the street for a coffee break and there was a man there who had just received his cup of coffee that was 25 cents at the time., but there was two cents due for the taxes. He said 'oh I don't have the change with me.'
I offered the two cents from my pocket and he was very appreciative. 'That was a very kind gesture young man, I think I owe you a Thank you.'.
He took a slip of paper and wrote a note that said I owe you one shirt.
Signed Mr Fishel, Fishels clothing store. I'm just around the corner.
I went around the corner and met him in his store and he looked at my note and he said how would you like to select a shirt from this rack.
I was able to select one of my favorite shirts that I had while I was in college.
The rumor was that Mr Fishel had been generous to many college students in similar ways.
His kindness was worth much more than two cents.!
