Kindness after Grief
The greatest act of kindness shown to me was after my greatest grief, the loss of my 9 year old daughter who was born with a congenital heart defect. We had just purchased a large house several counties away in a rural mountain area. Settlement was just around the corner and we were preparing to move; including getting a new doctor and hospital for our daughter. She was excited about moving to a big house. She died in her sleep shortly before we were to make settlement. We were not prepared financially, all our money was tied up with the house. A wonderful kind generous coworker E.W took it upon herself to open a bank fund (this was long before GoFundMe) and send everyone she ever knew, people, organizations, church groups.and even stores for money to cover my daughter's burial so we cold continue with our move. She raised over $4,000. In 1989 this was more than enough. We were able to move into the house and have our daughter buried in the beautiful local cemetery close to it. I didn't know most of the people who donated but they are all forever in my heart along with E.W.
